MYSTERY today surrounded how a young man suffered head injuries before he was found collapsed on the pavement next to a busy dual carriageway.
The 19-year-old, who has not been named by police, was discovered with bruising to his face and head on Crompton Way, Tonge Moor.
Detectives were due to interview him at his hospital bed side today in a bid to find out what happened. Yesterday police cordoned off the area in front of two large semi-detached houses and launched an investigation into how he suffered the injuries near the junction with Archer Avenue. It is not yet clear whether he slipped on ice or was attacked before he was found on the ground.
Released
Three people who were in a house next to where the man was found were quizzed by police at Astley Bridge police station yesterday and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Following the drama yesterday neighbours said they did not know who the man was or how he suffered his injuries.
One said: "The first I knew was when the police were there. I hadn't heard anything before then. I didn't think there was anyone in their late teens or early 20s living there."
