CHILDREN at a Bolton primary school will be ringing in the Millennium in style.

Pupils Chorley New Road CP are marking the turn of the century with a new clock for their bell tower.

The new landmark is the brainwave of former parent governor and ex-pupil, Judith Marsden, who thought it would be a good for both the school and the local community.

And another former pupil who has gone on to do well in business thought it was such a good idea, he stumped up the cash to pay for it.

Mr Phil Martindale, managing director of Martindales, Dart Lane, Blackrod, paid for the timepiece which was installed in the bell tower on the middle and upper school building.

Horwich town council also agreed to dig into their coffers to mark the Millennium paid for special lights to illuminate the clock for all to see.

Early in the New Year, a weather vane will be erected on the opposite tower of the Early Years' building and children will be given a Commemorative Millennium Bookmark depicting the two new landmarks.
