A VICAR is preparing himself for a change of scenery - from Little Lever to Africa.

The Rev Simon Brandes, vicar at St Matthew's in Little Lever, will spend three months in Namibia next spring, working with bishops and being in temporary charge of a cathedral.

He said: "I think the posh title for all of this is something like studying the work of senior ministers in the diocese and studying the inculturation of liturgy in an African setting.

"In April and June I will be working with bishops in the south and north of the diocese and in May I'll be looking after the cathedral . . . sort of a temporary dean for the month.

"I'm delighted to be going."

The trip has been funded by the Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.
