Marine 1, Leigh RMI 1 IT is as you were at the top of the UniBond Premier Division after a 1-1 draw at Rossett Park yesterday.
But League leaders Leigh will regard it as two points lost rather than one gained after they outplayed Marine in the first half and should have turned round with more than a one-goal advantage before allowing the home side to equalise two minutes from time.
Not for the first time Leigh have let points slip late in a game.
It was a cracking affair with two contrasting styles - the one-touch passing and movement of RMI against the direct approach from second placed Marine.
In all fairness, the Railwaymen should have been home and dry by the interval but all they had to show was a 23rd-minute goal by Steven Jones. Dave Ridings won the ball in midfield, Ricky Harris took it on before slipping Jones through. The winger raced into the box before beating Chris Clarke with a perfect right-footer.
Even though RMI were pushed back in the second half, they still had the best chances, wih Tony Black the chief culprit.
He was one-on-one with Clarke twice, with the keeper coming out on top in both instances.
Ironically, from the second, Marine levelled. He dived at Black's feet before sending David Thompson away to win a corner.
From David Gamble's perfect delivery, Chris Price headed past Dave Felgate in the near post.
