Runs until February 5 DON'T miss this.

A star is born as Paul Robinson makes his mark as film star Don Lockwood in a superb revival of this popular musical.

For those who don't know the film of the same name, Singin' in the Rain recalls the changeover from silent films to "talkies".

The show has some memorable songs including Be A Clown, Good Morning and the title song

Paul sings, dances and acts his way through the show with style and puts his own stamp on the part which is always associated with Gene Kelly.

No impersonation of Kelly is attempted and certainly none is needed. Paul has a charisma of his own and makes the most of the humour in the production.

He's a leading man in every sense of the words and it's worth seeing the musical for his performance alone.

But, happily, the rest of the cast do first class work.

In particular, Rebecca Thornhill as the squeaky-voiced Linda Lamont is a delight and Mark Channon rises to the occasion as Cosmo Brown. Zoe Hart is a fetching Kathy Selden.

And I was particularly taken with David Lucas's version of Beautiful Girl.

Jude Kelly's direction is faultless. Graphics and pictures on huge screens complement the action on stage and the choreography by Stephen Mear is breathtaking.

There's plenty of "rain" for the famous sequence and a terrific finale when the whole cast have a splashing time!

I've not enjoyed a musical so much for a very long time. Doreen Crowther
