GARETH Williams' life is definitely going according to "script"!

The 20-year-old from Atherton has been invited to Hollywood to spend three months with one of the world's most famous film and record producers.

A chance telephone call saw Gareth being invited to spend three months working for Quincy Jones.

The invitation is the first step on the ladder for the media studies and television production student, who has already written one short film and is currently putting the final touches to a feature-length script.

Gareth will be working at Quincy Jones Entertainment, a production company which specialises in television films and programmes.

Although he hopes to get the opportunity to watch film making on the set, he will be spending most of his time doing the one thing closest to his heart - reading and writing film scripts.

He said: "I will be based in the pre-production department, where the ideas for films are generated.

"This will give me first hand experience and I am hoping that reading other scripts will improve my skills.

"I will be working in an environment where it is all happening, meeting deadlines and making contacts.

"They have already told me to send any script ideas I have to them, and over the telephone have been very helpful."

work placement is part of the course Gareth is undertaking at university in Warrington.

Gareth said: "We held a meeting and I was told one girl had gone to America last year. That's where you go if you want to make films.

"But for about six months I got nowhere. Then, my friend and I got hold of a telephone number off the Internet, and within three days we were being invited to Hollywood.

"My feet haven't touched the ground since."

Gareth sets off on April 15, and hopes to rent an apartment close to Bel Air.

He said: "The script writing is the easy man's job. You come up with the idea and can leave the rest to someone else to make!

"My latest script is a black comedy. I really want to make British films that contest Hollywood's domination."

Gareth is now hoping someone will help sponsor him in his time in Hollywood. Any companies able to help should contact him on 01942 791943.
