A PIONEERING safety system designed to reduce the risk of nursing home residents receiving the wrong medicines could be adopted all over the country following successful trials in Bolton.

The Personalised Security Stamp (PSS) system has been on trial at the Parkview Nursing Home on Chorley New Road.

And Bolton North East MP David Crausby visited the home to see the scheme in action.

The PSS system uses sticky labels with the resident's picture printed on which can be attached to medicine bottles so staff know exactly who should receive which medication.

A blank strip on the label next to the photograph can have details such as the patient's name and the dosage needed.

Mr Crausby has pledged to pass details of the scheme on to Government ministers.

Parkview matron Angela Williams said: "It is an excellent idea and one which should be taken up."

Matrons from other nursing homes in the area were also invited to see the system in action.

Bolton businessman Yogesh Raja is the inventor of PSS.

He believes the system could also be used for children who need to take medicines while at school and in a variety of other situations to prove identity.

Mr Raja can be contacted on Bolton 456977.
