I REFER to your recent articles in the paper about dog fouling. While I admire the stance being taken by the council, I find it hard to believe Cllr Joyce Kellet when she says it is a minority of dogs owners who allow their dogs to foul the pavements. In my experience it is the majority, the worst culprits being the owners of the so called "latchkey dogs".

I have previously written to the council and your paper, asking what is to be done about these dogs, who is going to clean up after them, how are their owners going to be caught and fined. These dogs leave just as much if not even more waste than any dog taken out by its owner. How is the council hoping to combat this problem? We have in the past called the dog warden out to these dogs, and were told their powers were limited as to what they can actually do to their owners. It seems ridiculous that someone who lets their dog foul the pavement is going to be fined £1,000, and yet someone who lets their dogs roam the streets, causing untold mess, being a danger to themselves and motorists is going to get away scot free. How much is the fine for letting your dog roam the streets?

As to the "poop bins", how long will it be before these are vandalised. I live on a busy road, near a roundabout and bus stop. The bus shelter is always being vandalised and the keep-left signs are always being knocked over and broken, so how long will it be before these bins are wrecked?

I am not anti dog, I have three of my own, but I am anti unfairness. Lets see something positive being done about the problem of "latchkey dogs", it's not fair on them either
