COLIN Todd is hoping Danish trialist Tommy Schramm comes up to scratch tonight to ease the strain on Wanderers' promotion squad.
The 27-year-old midfielder, formerly with Brondby and now playing for Herfolge in the Danish Super League, gets his second trial in the reserve game against Grimsby at the Reebok, knowing an impressive performance could secure him a contract.
"Tonight will tell me all I need to know," Todd said after being impressed by Schramm's performance in the Reserves' 3-2 win at West Brom last week.
The Wanderers boss has made no secret of his plan to sign at least one midfield player to cover for possible injuries and suspensions over the remaining 15 games of the push for the Premiership.
He has already lost central midfield inspiration Per Frandsen for Saturday's home game against bottom club Crewe Alexandra - the Denmark international being suspended after picking up his eighth booking of the season.
As a result, Ricardo Gardner is expected to start on the left of midfield with Scott Sellars switching to a central role. But the lack of cover, beyond his midfield complement of five, has prompted Todd to turn to the transfer market and, ultimately, abroad once again.
"I've had no joy at all with English clubs," he revealed today. "I wouldn't be too concerned if I could guarantee there wouldn't be any injuries or suspensions."
The absence of Andy Todd from tonight's 2nd Xl line-up suggests he has already convinced his manager of his fitness for selection for the Crewe game when Wanderers will also be missing Mark Fish, who plays for South Africa against The Gabon in their African Nations Cup qualifier in Johannesburg.
Bo Hansen, who scored twice at West Brom, gets another reserve team run out tonight.
