THE view held by Ludovic Kennedy, that God is but an "illusion", was given national coverage in the press, and has sparked off a great deal of debate in our towns and villages.

From a strictly scientific point, I wonder whether people realise that if we take "reason and logical deduction" as our guide, it is in fact FAR MORE logical and scientific to believe that all the complexities of life are the result of pre-planning and design by a Creator, than to believe they merely occurred by pure accident and chance?

If there were no Supreme Intelligence responsible for the universe then everything that exists needs to have come together by random processes. What scientists are discovering, however, is that far from things being simple, this universe and life itself is complex and intricate beyond our imagination, and it is becoming ever more logical to believe they all came together by deliberate design and pre-planning.

Taking the field of genetic research, for example, we now know that the nucleus of every single human cell contains more data than that contained in 30 volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, and also, amazingly, that each individual piece of data is co-dependent.

The complexity of cells is so staggering they couldn't be anything other than the result of design by some purposeful intelligence, not the work of time and chance.

The words of Albert Einstein are truer today than ever, he said: "Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a Spirit is manifested in the laws of the universe, a Spirit vastly superior to that of man."
