Middlesbrough Res 2

Wanderers Res 0 WANDERERS Reserves went down to their third consecutive defeat when Middlesbrough grabbed two goals in as many minutes midway through the first half at Billingham last night. Chances came for both sides early on. Wanderers keeper Matthew Glennon had to be alert to rush out to tackle Swede, Tobias Grahn, after he had broken through, while at the other end Eidur Gudjohnsen sent a 25 yard curling shot just over the bar.

Peter Morrison's left wing cross proved to be just too far for Gudjohnsen to reach after an impressive Wanderers build up in the 12th minute and Glennon was again called on to deny Grahn, this time from an angled drive.

Boro took the lead in the 25th minute when Andy Campbell made a run down the left, before cutting in to send a shot into the net off the inside of the post. Two minutes later it was Campbell again who hit the net. This time he struck from 15 yards after the ball had fallen to him in a scrappy melee.

The Wanderers continued to create after the interval with Morrison shooting across the face of the goal seconds after the restart. Bolton's best opportunity of getting back into it came on the 61st minute, when Icelandic pair Gudjohnsen and Olaf Snorrason combined with the latter's shot going agonisingly wide of the left hand post. Bolton: Glennon, Dawson, Pryers, O'Malley, Aljofree, Doherty, Corrigan, Staton, Gudjohnsen, Snorrason (Xiourouppa), Morrison.
