THREE intrepid students from the Bolton area are set for adventure in some of the most remote territory in the world to help protect unique wildlife. The trio -- Paul Caddone, of Farnworth, Jonathan Culf, from Westhoughton, and Walkden man Jim Pearson -- will form part of an eight-strong team planning to travel to islands off Indonesia's coast in July. The Salford University students aim to meet up with scientific teams to help preserve the islands' flora and fauna as well as providing help to village communities.
Paul, who is studying for a BA (Hons) in applied environmental and resource sciences, said: "There are very few remote places left like this. We want to be able to map the area and try to make it a National Park."
But before the group of students can jet out to the Tukangbesi island group, they must raise £25,000 to finance scientific experiments, equipment and jungle transportation. And now they are on the hunt for sponsors who can offer a financial helping hand to get their environmentally-friendly expedition off the ground.
Paul added: "The £25,000 doesn't even cover the cost of our own flights which we're trying to find elsewehere.
"We're looking for a company who has got an environmental conscience. We will even advertise their products by wearing their clothes and we hope to feature in a television documentary which could also highlight their help."
The students are even offering to provide regular updates in the newsletters of any companies who agree to sponsor them.
Any firms or individuals who would like to offer sponsorship should contact group leader Jim Pearson on 0161 790 4772.
