FLAGS will fly at half mast on council buildings throughout Bury on Tuesday, in memory of people who have lost their lives at work.
Bury's UNISON branch and the District Trades Union Council will join trade unions around the world to mark Workers Memorial Day.
The day will reflect on those who have been killed, maimed or have had their health destroyed by their jobs.
At the same time it will focus on the on-going campaign for better safety standards at work. Campaigners have adopted the symbol of a purple ribbon forget-me-knot.
The knot has been reproduced by UNISON on badges, which will be distributed to members of the public and callers to council buildings.
Nearly two million workers in Britain suffer illness or injury caused by their work, and around 500 people are killed while doing their job.
A recent survey by the Health and Safety Executive revealed that 20 million working days are lost every year due to work related sickness.
