A GROUP of disgruntled women have sent a 300 signature petition telling councillors "hands off our Full Monty nights". The peeved punters want to be able to see "ladies night" shows and are outraged the council won't let them. They say the by-law, which bans male strippers from revealing all, is ridiculous, outdated and prudish.

The group of friends, from Westhoughton, had bought tickets for a show at the Greenfields Private Members Club.

But when the act was cancelled because of the ban, they were so brassed off they got a petition together - which already has more than 300 signatures, with more to be collected.

One of the group, Sue Diver, 35, from Wigan Road said: "We were looking forward to a good night out and didn't get it. It's just a bit of fun."

She said the group wanted to persuade councillors to repeal the by-law because ladies nights were always well supported and raised money for charities.

Mrs Diver added: "It's the 1990s not the 1890s and people want to enjoy themselves. "It's the charities that are losing out."

She said Bolton was the only place in the North West that put the dampers on ladies nights.

"It's ridiculous when you can go to the cinema and watch The Full Monty." The women are being backed by Cllr David Wilkinson, who has sent the petition to Bolton Council.

It will be looked at by Bolton Borough Environmental Health Officer John Clegg, who deals with standards and licensing.

A report is due to be published into the issue which will go before councillors.

Cllr Wilkinson said: "The petition might help persuade them that there is a body of opinion that wants a review to take place."
