THE search is on for this year's local top environmental campaigners.

The Civic Pride Awards, run by Bolton Council's Environment Team and sponsored by the Bolton Evening News, recognise achievements by individuals, companies, voluntary organisations and groups throughout Bolton.

Last year Danisco Paper Limited in Little Lever won an award for transforming a derelict tip into a green haven for wildlife.

There was also an award for the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Society.

In 1996 May Tattersall showed her determination to keep Bolton clean by clearing up bottles, cans, crisp packets and disposable nappies left in the streets.

She won an award for her tireless efforts.

This year it could be you.

Nominations are needed for people, or groups, who have helped the environment in any way.

It could be a school's clean-up campaign, someone who is helping to protect wildlife or another special environmental project.

Anyone who would like to make a nomination is asked to write to environmental planner Helen Miller, at Milton House, Wellington Street, Bolton, BL3 5DG, or ring on Bolton 371111.

Nominations must be in by Friday, May 8, and the awards will be presented on Friday, May 22, during National Environment Week in a marquee in Victoria Square.
