CHORLEY will help mark the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the abortion law which campaigners say has led to the legal killing of millions of unborn children.

A Pro-Life human chain will form on the A6 Preston Road tomorrow (Friday, April 24).

It is part of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child Week-End of Witness which has been organised to mark the anniversary.

The event will comprise two main events - Pro-Life chains and vigils up and down the country.

Geoff Thompson, aged 65, of Chorley, a retired surveyor with the Liverpool Archdiocese and spokesman for the local campaigners, said: "We've had two chains before. People with placards will stand along the edge of the pavement along Preston Road between Highfield Road North and Chorley Hospital.

"It was chosen because it is a very busy road and more people will see the demonstration.

"Last year was a very bad year, we had 25 turn up, the weather was bitter. The year before, it wasn't so bad, there were between 40 and 50. It all depends on the weather."

MPs and showbusiness personalties will be taking part in the special weekend.

There will be a human chain encircling the cities of Westminster and London, beginning in the Houses of Parliament and an all night vigil on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral. There are thought to be some 84 different groups taking part in the event.

The nearest vigils to Chorley are at St Wilfrids Church, Chapel Street, Preston, between 7.30pm-8.30pm and Our Lady & All Saints Church, Lancaster Lane, Parbold, between 7pm-9pm both on Sunday, April 26.
