Saturday was such a special day
Sharing the match with excitement was fun.
The cheering crowds when the Wanderers scored.
The 90-year-old from Morecambe way
Spoke with twinkling eyes and youth's emotion,
A cry behind "what a waste of money."
Seeing his team match millionaires
So much to admire, never bored.
How great it makes you feel inside,
To see your team giving their all
Playing with passion, standing tall,
Even better still next to beloved most.
Dismay too, when the Rovers scored,
A wicked deflection, locals floored.
But what crescendo when the substitute fired,
A marvellous winner, in off the post.
To their credit the Rovers came back,
But this Bolton team of sterner stuff.
Stood firm repelling every attack,
The referee blew, the crowd rose long
To acclaim their heroes, brilliant game.
With passion, pride and sporting too
The Reebok Stadium's magnificent frame
Came alive today, a heart of song. Michael W Seed
