SIR: I, my colleagues and, I'm sure, many of your readers were saddened to read that a 70 years' young employee of an Age Concern Organisation in South Wales had been asked to leave because she was too old.

Age Concern is a federalist organisation. Put simply, we're a family of wholly independent local charities. We share many common aims and services etc, designed to promote the well-being of older people but each local organisation has its own identity and employment policies.

I am happy to confirm that Age Concern Bolton does not discriminate on age or any other grounds. I am even happier to confirm that some of our longest-serving and most committed staff and volunteers are in their 70s and, indeed, 80s. We wouldn't be without them. In fact, we'd love to hear from people of all ages who are interested in joining us as volunteers. Please ring me on 01204 382411 or write to me.
