A YOUNG woman had her head smashed against a wall in a vicious street attack.

The 23-year-old was attacked from behind as she walked along Ainsdale Road, Great Lever, last night. She was grabbed by the hair before being hurled against the wall.

Today detectives appealed for information about the assault.

While the woman was semi-conscious the attacker tried to pull rings off her fingers. But he was unsuccessful and ran off.

A passing police patrol stopped to give her help. She was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment to head injuries and bruised fingers but was not detained.
