OFSTED inspectors were full of praise following a visit to Higher Lane County Infants School in Whitefield, declaring it a school which offered "good value for money".
A four strong inspection team found little to fault after an extensive study of the school on Egerton Road. And staff got a pat on the back for the quality of teaching.
The inspectors reported: "The school's ethos is geared towards high academic achievement.
"The majority of pupils either meet or exceed the average expectation for their age in all curriculum subjects.
"Pupils' progress is particularly good throughout most elements of the three core subjects."
Pupils' attendance, behaviour and punctuality were found to be good, and youngsters showed positive attitudes to learning.
Inspectors added that the school has an "effective partnership" with parents and good links with the local community.
Headteacher Mrs Val Eustice was said to provide "strong and effective leadership, with the governing body supportive and involved in the strategic planning process".
