PAUL Wingfield has turned his back on Wembley-bound Sheffield Eagles and will stay with Leigh Centurions for at least another month.

Goal-kicking winger Wingfield ended his first month on loan from Warrington Wolves at Hilton Park with a flawless eight from eight return against Rochdale on Easter Monday.

His performances with his hometown club had not gone unnoticed by Eagles boss John Kear who was keen to take Wingfield to the Don Valley.

But Centurions chairman Mick Higgins has struck a deal with the Wolves and Wingfield with a view to making the move from Wilderspool a permanent one.

"Paul has become a vital member of our first team squad and we must do everything we can to keep him at Hilton Park," says Higgins.
