VANDALS went on a town centre wrecking spree, smashing a Thai boxing club's signs worth hundreds of pounds.

Owner Sandy Holt has been landed with an estimated bill of £300 to replace the three large signs which advertise his club, off Brown Street.

And Mr Holt says this is the latest and worst in a string of attacks on his club's signs in recent months.

Signs have been pulled down in previous attacks but all three signs were smashed in the latest incident. Mr Holt said: "We have been up and running since 1983 and have never had any problems until the start of this year.

"Three signs have been pulled down before but none have been smashed like this. These are vinyl signs and cannot be easily broken. Whoever has done this has been very systematic about it and must have used something like a hammer.

"It's not as if the signs were easy to reach. One of them was eight feet above the ground so I don't know why they've bothered."

Now Mr Holt says he fears someone may have started a vendetta against his successful club.

The 38-year-old double British and European Thai Boxing Champion added: "I'm understandably annoyed about all of the hassle this has caused.

"Whoever is doing this must be crazy to target a Thai Boxing club in this way. If we caught whoever did this he wouldn't laugh about it.

"We have been involved in loads of charity projects around the town over the years and we don't want any trouble."

In past years Mr Holt has helped set up the Kick Drugs project and has had an input into the Bully Busting scheme.

He said: "It's a shame that you put so much effort into the community and this is the way you're paid back by some mindless individuals."
