A FARNWORTH businessman has slammed the Passport Agency, claiming vital documents "went missing".

He is urging the Agency to re-think its mailing system after his daughter's passport was sent through the post unregistered.

Building surveyor Walter Harlow says birth certificates also went missing.

Walter of Cedar Grove, Farnworth, said: "You hear about fraud and false documents being used for all sorts of things.

"I would be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar problem with the Passport Agency in Liverpool.

"I know that when I recently applied for a visa to travel to India, these documents came back by registered post.

"Surely they should use a similar system for other important documents like passports and birth certificates?"

Mr Harlow says his daughter's birth certificate and his grand daughter's birth certificate never arrived back.

"When they complained, the Passport Agency insisted that they had sent it and that my daughter must have thrown them away by mistake," he said.

"I thought that was very strange. We can't be the only ones that this has happened to."

A spokesman from the Passport Agency said that they would be investigating the matter but were unable to discuss confidential issues with a third party.

The Passport Agency spokesman said: "We do allow for human error. And obviously we do regard these documents as very important. I will be looking into it."
