Mystery surrounds a series of loud bangs heard near Regent Park Golf Course in Lostock by residents who believed them to be gun-shots.
Police searched the area shortly before 10pm last night after a number of residents called after hearing the bangs, but nothing was found and there was no evidence of shots having been fired.
