DETECTIVES fear a haul of expensive golf equipment could be sold on the black market following a raid at a Bolton club. Clothing and equipment - valued at more than £5,000 - was snatched in a ram raid at Bolton Open Golf Course in Harwood. Raiders smashed into the front of the course shop off Longsight Lane and packed equipment in the boot.

Now shop staff and police are appealing for information and warning the public to be wary of anyone trying to sell golf equipment at bargain prices.

Included in the haul were a large number of water-proof coats and leggings with Hippo, Stylo, and Proquip motifs.

A large number of Pringle jumpers were also taken in the raid, together with golf clubs and golf tour bags.

Det Con Debbie Birchall, of Astley Bridge police, said: "These are high quality items and anyone with any suspicions about golfing equipment being offered in the area should contact us immediately."

Anyone with information, or who may have seen the raid during Saturday night or early Sunday morning, should call DC Birchall on 0161 856 5752.
