BOLTON'S Octagon Theatre is featured in a special TV debate tonight featuring Coronation Street star John Savident alias Fred Elliott. Close Up North on BBC2 at 7.30pm focuses on the Octagon as a major success story in the region. And the Octagon's artistic director Lawrence Till features in a special film on the theatre. The debate was hastily arranged by BBC North West chiefs at Manchester in the wake of the closure of the Liverpool Playhouse.
A BBC spokesman said: "The debate asks 'what future is there for threatre in our region?'"
Two other studio guests are Sue Harris, chief executive of North West Arts, and Richard Williams, artistic director of the doomed Playhouse.
In a special film the Octagon is highlighted as a success for its ability to attract lottery funding, its varied programme and involvement in the community.
