BURY boss Stan Ternent has blasted rival FA Cup skipper David Holdsworth for an off-the-ball clash that put Paul Dalglish in hospital with a broken nose.

Dalglish, the son of Newcastle boss Kenny, needed an operation on a complicated nose fracture, after the clash in last Saturday's 3rd round tie at Sheffield United.

The clubs, who drew 1-1, are due to meet in a replay at Gigg Lane next Tuesday by which time Ternent hopes Blades boss Nigel Spackman will have considered taking action against his captain.

"It's not up to me to tell their manager how to run his club but if Holdsworth was one of my players he would be severely disciplined for what he did," Ternent fumed. "I certainly wouldn't condone what happened.

"I'm not happy at all and my players aren't happy.

"The incident took place with the ball 40 yards away and the referee missed it. But it left a 20-year-old lad with a badly broken nose and likely to be sidelined for two weeks through no fault of his own.

"There's nothing I can do about it but perhaps Nigel Spackman might do something.

"The lad (Dalglish) might just have to put it down to experience. But it's not right that a player should get away with something like that. He's the captain of a big club and we're supposed to be just a small club but that shouldn't make any difference."
