SIR: As a father my sympathies would normally go out to any parent in Jack Straw's situation, but I have no sympathy with a man who since becoming Home Secretary has preached to the nation of parental responsibilities and of even taking parents to court for their children's crimes. He also spoke of curfews and zero tolerance to drug dealers. In fact at a recent meeting of ACPO, the chief police officers association they suggested a change in the law, that all drug dealers should be assumed guilty and have to prove their innocence. As Home Secretary, Jack Straw is in charge of the police.

Jack Straw's son was in a public house drinking under age and selling drugs, it is alleged. Mr Straw should practise what he preaches and put his own house in order before he dictates to the nation on parental responsibilities. And if he had any honour he would resign his position as Home Secretary until he had.
