SIR: I was surprised to read the comments of Horwich Conservative Association spokesman Ivan Cooper, with reference to the "under use" of Horwich Resource Centre. Where has Mr Cooper been? Does he visit the centre at midnight? The Centre is positively buzzing in most of its working hours.

Horwich Art Society is not alone in enjoying the facilities which are set in an easy parking and convenient area. The Friday evening meetings are a source of pleasure and encouragement to our members. These informal drop-in gatherings for anyone interested in art are beginning to become addictive to those who attend. The Society held its second exhibition in Horwich Resource Centre last November. I know of several other groups who also use the centre to its full potential during day and evening.

Horwich Resource Centre is an asset to Horwich, being well run and offering so much in many different ways to the people of Horwich and beyond. Mr Cooper would be welcome to visit our art club any Friday and see for himself how well used Horwich Resource Centre is, and far from being a "burden on the local tax payer" is a thriving hub of activity.

R Rimmer.

Secretary
