Courtesy costs nothing,
Is "Please" so hard to say.
Whatever happened to "Thank You",
or "How are you to-day?"
Does it hurt to hold that door,
To let someone pass through?
You really should acknowledge,
If they do the same for you.
There's an aged, infirm neighbour,
Lives just a few doors down.
Can you get them anything,
When you go down to town?
Sometimes their only company,
Is the budgie, dog or cat.
So say "I've put the kettle on,
Come on in for a chat."
Don't watch a lady struggle,
With a baby and a pram.
Just help her to get on the bus,
Say "O.K. love, here I am."
It's the little things in life,
A kindly word or deed.
That could make the way much easier,
For those who are in need.
And, if you're feeling idle,
With an hour to spare, or two,
Just call in, or 'phone, the Hospice.
They'll find a job for you. By George Platt
