TEACHERS at Rivington and Blackrod discovered someone had tried to burn down their school when they returned from the Christmas holidays.
A bottle stuffed with paper and petrol had been thrown through a library window. The fire had smouldered on the carpet but had gone out.
A police spokesman said: "It could have been a very serious incident. We believe they intended to burn the place down."
