SIR: I refer to my letter 'Power to your pens' (Your views, November 21). The homily that came to my home recently in an anonymous letter form, was obviously a knee jerk reaction to the truth. I have to say to whoever sent it, apart from remaining faceless, invariably in these instances there is a lack of moral fibre.
The high intelligence rating that a distinguished war pensions medical tribunal gave me in the early 50s, justifies the contempt with which I treated the criticism. It also qualified me to form the favourable opinion I have of the BEN, warts and all.
To the recently formed extraneous proof-reading faction of your newspaper, may I with respect remind you that punditry often becomes tedium, however well intended.
Finally for my mystery correspondent, I say in no way do I condone what Ronnie Biggs did. As 'Slipper of the Yard' said, he was a petty crook. The tea boy of his gang. Our flawed justice system allowed him to escape. This is the system that often treats perpetrators better than victims and allows paedophiles to roam free. Lay people often see this as cunning defence lawyers able to manipulate the machinery of their profession.
