SIR: I refer to the article headed: Regeneration game winner (BEN, December 9).

I applaud the comment made by Noel Spencer "Making good use of vacant buildings", but why not make use of all our vacant buildings in Farnworth and Kearsley and our empty industrial units and the rubbish surrounding them - let's concentrate on filling these, and leave Singing Clough green, as it was promised by the councils concerned. Then our children can still walk to school in safety, play games and ride their horses, innstead of their school, George Tomlinson's, being totally surrounded by industry, heavy traffic and fumes all day. Surely this is not safe or healthy for them, and is not Council policy.

We love our only green area, just as our councillors love Queens Park, so let's not let greed get the better of us.

What are the views of parents whose children attend George Tomlinson's school? If there were more industry, heavy traffic and fumes surrounding them, would this be good for health and safety?

Mr Bill Collison.
