CHORLEY'S revival continued at Victory Park on Saturday as they made it four wins on the trot with a hammering of Spennymoor.

This was a magnificent display by the Magpies, capped by Matt Swailes' first hat-trick in a black and white shirt.

While Swailes might have grabbed the headlines, this was a superb team performance by Bryan Griffiths' men who really have looked a formidable unit in recent weeks.

Chorley set off like a house on fire, winning a succession of early free-kicks and corners and having goals by Higginbotham and Allardyce disallowed for offside. But just before the half hour, Allardyce conceded a needless free-kick near the corner flag and from the set piece Allardyce's challenge on Richardson was deemed worthy of a penalty by the referee. Richardson's spot-kick was well placed beyond Marsh's despairing dive.

Just before half-time Chorley crucially levelled when Cain's incisive through ball released Higginbotham to slot the ball past the advancing Toth to maintain the striker's run of goals.

The second half was all Chorley against an increasingly desperate Spennymoor side who resorted to some dubious tactics which resulted in a spate of free-kicks and ultimately six bookings for the visitors.

Fittingly it was from a free-kick that Chorley took the lead with just over an hour gone. Simms floated the ball into the box, Allardyce headed it back and Swailes nodded in unmarked. Ten minutes later Higginbotham laid the ball back for Swailes to thunder a spectacular 25-yard drive into the roof of the net for a quite magnificent goal.

Swailes then completed a memorable hat-trick heading in at the far post from Cain's excellent deep cross. A terrific individual performance from the Magpies' young striker, but more importantly a marvellous all-round team display by the fast-improving Chorley who looked a class act on this evidence.
