SIR: It was heartening to read (BEN, November 10) that Mr and Mrs C Haley of Old Ash Nurseries, Darwen Road, only want to be left alone to run a nursery (use as a garden centre was excluded when the 1989 planning application was passed) and have no thoughts of seeing their part of Birtenshaw Farmland fall to development by selling the land.
This is interesting, in view of the implications aired in court re Van Haley Ltd, (BEN, August 1), when the said protected field was described as 'a potential goldmine' since Barratt were allowed to set aside restrictive covenants and build on a neighbouring field.
Presumably residents may now breathe a sigh of relief?
