PUB regulars have helped to swell the coffers of St John Ambulance with a zany series of charity events.

Margaret Toon, licensee of the Black Boy, Pall Mall, held a social evening with a tombola and raffle, and her lady regulars decided to top up the money by visiting other pubs dressed in football kits.

The ladies' efforts raised £350 which was presented to President of the St John Ambulance Chorley Quad Division, Mike Shires, at a recent evening of hot pot and entertainment at the Black Boy.

The ladies again appeared kitted out in their football strips to add to the fun of the evening.

Mike Shires explained the workings of the local division, which includes the six to ten year old Badgers, teenage Cadets including some on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, and adult members.

Among the fundraising team was Vera Tamplin, who was recently awarded a St John long service medal to go with that previously awarded to her husband, Eddie, who also helped out at the events.

At this time of the year, many St John members will be seen on first aid duty at the seasonal functions.

New members are always welcome, or can just come along and see what goes on in teaching, learning and caring in the local community. For more information, call Mike Shires on (01257) 264919.
