DETECTIVES are probing a drugs link in the deaths of a couple discovered at a house in Leigh today.

The bodies of a man and woman were found in an upstairs bedroom at the house in Glebe Street in the early hours.

A doctor was called to the scene but the couple, believed to be in their 20s, were dead.

Police sealed off the area as forensic experts combed the house.

A police spokesman said he could not comment on whether or not drugs had played a part in their deaths. He confirmed, however, that drugs are at the centre of the investigation.

The senior police officer said: "At this stage I can only confirm that we are looking into a set of suspicious circumstances over their deaths."

The alarm is believed to have been raised after relatives and neighbours in the street became concerned after not seeing the couple for some time. The bodies were removed from the scene for formal identification.

Detectives later confirmed that the deaths were not being treated as a murder inquiry. A post mortem examination is being carried out this afternoon.
