THE Mayor of Bolton is looking for a special female ....to become the town's Woman of the Year. The annual search has started to find a local female who deserves the town's top accolade. At stake is a cheque for £250 and a crystal trophy, and the chance to follow in the footsteps of women like last year's winner Lesley Green - the founder of Bolton-based charity Vision Aid which helps visually impaired children and families across the country.

There will also be four other finalists, who will reach receive a cheque for £50 and a piece of crystal.

The Mayor, Cllr Peter Birch, wants to receive nominations from local people about women in all walks of life.

It might be a special woman who has worked tirelessly for charity, a devoted "lollipop lady", a top businesswoman, much-loved teacher or a committed carer working quietly at home.

If YOU know someone whose work, and life, deserves highlighting in this special way, contact the Mayor's Office at Bolton Town Hall (tel. 01204-522311) for official nomination forms.

A panel of judges will choose four finalists and an overall winner. All will be invited along to the Bolton Woman of the Year Luncheon at the Bolton Moat House Hotel on Friday, February 20, 1998.

Here, the winner will be announced at an enjoyable event that has become an important part of the town's social calendar since it was inaugurated two years ago by the then-Mayoress Mrs Audrey Rushton.

The event is sponsored by Bolton structural engineering firm William Hare, and money from the Luncheon will go to a charity of the winner's choice.

Tickets for the four-course luncheon cost £12.50, also available from the Mayor's office.

Nominations have to be sent in by February 6 at the latest. So, come on, get those nominations in now for Bolton's unsung heroines.
