A BOLTON schoolboy had an amazing escape when he crashed head first through a plate glass window on a garage forecourt. Splintered glass missed a vein in Daryl Wells' wrist by inches as the eight-year-old from Halliwell ran through the glass at the petrol station on Chorley Old Road.

Daryl, pictured right, nursing his wounded hand, had been taking money to the cashier for a neighbour who had just filled up with diesel. He needed stitches to his left hand and and had other minor cuts and bruises.

He sprinted towards the glass door without realising it was closed and went head first with outstretched hands through the reinforced glass as he tripped on a step.

His mother, Lesley, said: "He really cheated death.

"He left a hole the shape of his body through the glass - like something out of a movie."
