URGING children to compare their achievements with others seldom makes them improve. Jealousy and irritation are usually the result rather than better grades.
But introducing an element of racial comparison seems ill-judged for an experienced head-teacher like Mr Mike Kehoe at Smithills School. Telling 60, Year 11 boys that they had under-achieved compared to their Asian counterparts merely sharpens racial tensions.
