ATHERTON LR secretary Steve Hartle blasted his side after their 4-1 defeat at Glossop North End.

"It was undoubtedly the worst performance we've seen from an Atherton LR team for many seasons.

"I can't remember when we last played so badly. There is nothing good you could say about a performance like that.

"There was no heart and no commitment. We were just ineffective all round.

"Glossop had had to draft their groundsman in to play centre half and yet they still beat us 4-1. That shows just how bad it was."

Two of Glossop's goals came from ex-LR man Phil Hulme with former Bolton Wanderer Gary Henshaw getting scant consolation for Rovers from the penalty spot following a handball.

ATHERTON Colls crashed out of the FA Vase at the second qualifying stage in a 3-O defeat at Derbyshire side Heanor Town.

"We were terrible," rapped manager Dennis Haslam.

"They weren't really a good side but for some reason we didn't play at all." Paul Crook missed two early chances for Colls in one-on-one situations with the keeper and a Scott Dowd header went over.

Had one of those chances gone in it could all have been a different story, but it wasn't to be. Strikers Alan Shawcross and Barry Diamond both missed the trip.

Colls and LR face a blank midweek with LR at home to Haslingden and Colls travelling to Holker Old Boys next Saturday.
