RAMSBOTTOM B had a 6-3 Premier Division table tennis win over British Aerospace A after Norman Thewlis stormed to a treble.

Norman was helped by two wins from Paul Collins and one from Terry Taylor.

Ronnie Pennington (two) and Steve Crook (one) scored the BAe points.

Last year's wooden spoonists, Little Lever A, suffered a 9-0 hammering at the hands of MET A.

Richard Smith, D. Griffiths and Dick Nystron all had trebles against the unsuccessful Ron Durose, Ted Foster and Phil Riley.

In division one Nomads A had a 6-3 victory when they were entertained by Chorley Old Road A.

A treble for Richard Armstrong supported by two from Mark Tong (making a comeback this season after a lay-off) and one from Martin Bromley did the damage.

Kevan Orton (two) and Steve Williams (one) made the hosts' contribution.

A Roy Costello treble and two from Paul Tatlock were enough to secure a 5-4 win for Little Lever Cricket Club B over Ladybridge A.

There were two wins for Ladybridge's E. Simon and one each for George Simpson and Dave Bolton.

The cricketers' C team also tasted victory this week when they thrashed Heaton B 8-1 in division two.

There were trebles for Keith Mills and Ian Lansdale plus two for Garry Pilling.

Paul Mort saved the whitewash.

Doe Hey B also had two treble winners in Alan Towler and Andy McCheyne when - supported by one win from Mick Kitchen - they beat British Aerospace B 7-2.

Roger Lee and George Dawson had a win each for the visitors.

Hilton, the team which filled a late gap in division three, had a 7-2 win over an under-strength Meadow Hill B.

Bolton Road refugees Rod Hall (three) and Alan Fletcher (two) have joined forces with Hannah Roberts (two) to play from the Hilton Centre. Stephen Jones had two wins for the losers.

The Hilton A team also had a good week in this division when John Brinkworth, Julie Ardeshana and Alan Entwistle won two each in the 6-3 defeat of Wingates B.

Malcolm Jackson (two) and John Gratton (1) provided the Wingates opposition.

BEN B continued their good start to the season with a 7-2 win over Hilton C in division four.

There were trebles from Allan Hodgert and Dave Parkinson supported by one from captain Michael Aspinall.

David Tate and penholder Alan Revell had one win each.

Memorial Road A had the better of their encounter in this division with Jubilee B, winning 6-3 thanks to a treble from John Hannant, two from Neil Unsworth and one from L. Smith.

Jubilee C did better in division five when they beat Hilton E 7-2 following solid performances from David Miller (three), Roger Bolton (two) and Ron Ainsworth (2).

Christine Crumblehulme, the league secretary, provided two wins for the losers.

The Hilton D team also had a 7-2 scoreline in division five, but this one was in its favour.

Bill Dunn (three), Len Rogers (two) and Max Bowie (two) were successful against newcomers Halliwell Road, for whom Duncan McDermott and Dave Thompson scored one each.
