MANCHESTER was voted Britain's "Top Airport" at a prestigious travel industry awards evening.
The annual poll of travel agents, tour operators and airlines, sponsored by Travel Trade Gazette and American Express, voted Manchester the UK's No 1 airport.
Bill Savage, the airport's Business Development Director, received the gold award from TV celebrity Jonathan Ross at a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Airport Chief Executive Geoff Muirhead said it was a "glowing endorsement for Manchester."
Future plans include a new dedicated terminal facility for British Airways, new shops, restaurants, a luxury hotel, new office accommodation and the second runway.
Manchester beat off stiff competition from Gatwick and Stansted to win the award.
