BRITISH film director Ken Russell said on his arrival in new York that he was convinced that the public wants sex and violence in films. 'They tell us the public wants family films back,' he said. 'I did "The Boy Friend", and nobody came to see it. What the public wants is sex and violence.'

AT the Borough Court this morning, the following persons were summoned for neglecting to send their children to school. Matthew Jackson, blacksmith, 40 Water-street, and Patrick Donnelly, bricksetter, 17, Queen-street, who were each fined 2s 6d and costs; Francis M'Cann, labourer, 3, Partridge-street, and John McMahon, labourer, 6, Back Soho-street, against whom warrants were ordered to be issued as they had sent their wives to appear for them; and Thomas Bunnion, weaver, 77, Commission-street, the case being adjourned until Thursday next, in order to enable him to appear, as he is away from home.
