DETECTIVES are investigating a 15-year-old girl's claims that she was attacked and raped in Bolton town centre.

The allegation was one of four rapes reported to detectives in Greater Manchester over the weekend.

They include a rape allegation made by another 15-year-old girl in the Pemberton area of Wigan last night.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said none of the incidents was connected.

The schoolgirl attacked in Bolton is from the Salford area. She has told officers that she was raped in a dimly-lit street early on Saturday morning after a night out. She reported the incident to the police last night.

The girl was taken to the St Mary's Rape Referral Centre, Manchester, and will be further interviewed by detectives later today.

Other attacks on women were reported over the weekend in Weaste Cemetery, Salford, and in the Clifton area of Swinton. The 17-year-old woman in Weaste claimed to have been gang raped by several men.

The schoolgirl attacked in Pemberton shortly before 8pm yesterday was still helping police with their inquiries today.
