CHRISTIE Hospital in Manchester will open its doors on Saturday, - just to say "thanks" to the public.

Europe's largest cancer centre wants to show fundraisers their appreciation for contributing over £13 million to their 'Christie's against Cancer' appeal.

The appeal aims to raise a total of £25 million to bring about unprecedented advances in defeating a disease which affects one person in four.

Chief executive Mike Fry said: "We are holding this event to give anyone interested a look behind the scenes at this very special hospital.

"We hope to help de-mystify cancer. So, if you want to see how a magnetic resonance imaging scanner works, view precisely what we see under a microscope of find out how smoking can damage health, then Christie's is the place to be."

Admission is free, but an advance call on 0161 4463988 would help Christie's planning.
