A BOLTON man had a lucky escape from serious injury when a charity parachute jump went wrong.

Mark Farnworth, of Rydal Road, Heaton, was rushed to Lancaster Royal Infirmary after he landed badly on Sunday.

Mark was raising cash for Bolton Hospice and was one of a group of friends taking part in the fundraiser for a variety of charities at Cockeram, near Lancaster.

The group had received around seven hours tuition before the parachute jump.

His wife Shirley said: "Mark is extremely lucky. At first he couldn't move and we feared he was paralysed. It seems he jarred his neck and the nerves in his spine were crushed. He was checked over at hospital and allowed home."

Within a day of the accident Mark was walking about and raised around £200 through sponsorship.
