A SAFE "yellow brick road" could soon be set up through Bolton town centre.

Around 100 people have been invited to a special town hall seminar on Friday to discuss ways that safe pedestrian routes can be created.

It is all part of a council strategy to keep the town centre "alive after five."

The idea is that a route will be worked out that is well lit and considered safe for anyone to walk along alone after dark.

One idea which has been put forward is that it could be marked out with yellow coloured bricks.

Mr Adrian Golland, Bolton Council's environment department assistant director, said: "The idea of this seminar is to gather ideas.

"It may be that some people will think that the yellow brick road is a good idea, others may think it is a bit garish.

"I think it is fair to say that the simpler the scheme and the cheaper it is, the quicker it will come in.

"If anyone wants a Rolls Royce of a scheme, then it will take longer for the money to be available."

The seminar is in the festival hall at the town hall and town centre retailers have been invited along with representatives from other groups, including disabled organisations.
