EDGWORTH gained the consolation of winning the Bolton Association's Vimto Trophy.

The long-time leaders, who slumped to a third place finish after losing their last two games on the final weekend of the league competition, beat Elton by 40 runs.

Their bowlers proved to be the matchwinners as they set about protecting their innings of 147.

And no one did it better than Chris Locke who snookered the opposition by taking five wickets off only six overs.

Openers Pawson with 28 and Bushell, 18, gave Elton a solid start and the Edgworth total looked to be vulnerable. But once they had gone Locke began to tease out the batsmen.

First he bowled Gareth Williams then followed it up by taking the wickets of the Riaz brothers.

Ainsworth quickly followed and Locke finished by bowling Billingham for two as Elton tumbled to 107 all out.

Earlier Jamie Birch (28) and Mike Davies (25) got the Edgworth innings off to a healthy start and John Hopkins (29) and David Charlson (14) kept the scoreboard ticking over before Denver Thornton came in to bolster the score with an unbeaten 27.
