GUDNI Bergsson will reclaim the record as his country's most capped player when he captains Iceland in tomorrow's World Cup qualifier in Macedonia.

The Wanderers skipper will win his 73rd cap in the Group 8 game, edging ahead for the second time in his neck and neck race with Akranes midfielder Olafur Thordarson.

Bergsson set a new Icelandic record when he made his 71st international appearance in a qualifier against Romania in Reykjavic but injuries allowed Thordarson back in the race.

Mixu Paatelainen, who is currently on 50 caps, is recovering from a minor foot operation and misses Finland's home game against Azerbaijan in Group 3 on Sunday while fitness problems have also kept John McGinlay out of the reckoning for Scotland who go to Belarus aiming to strengthen their position in Group 4.

Midfielder Per Frandsen, who became a father last week, is in the Denmark squad for their Group 1 qualifier at home to Bosnia.
